Proficiency in German
Before you can enrol for your specific course of study, you have to prove satisfactory knowledge of the German language by passing the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH) examination. You will be charged 110 Euro for taking part in the DSH-exam.
Duisburg Campus now offers (as Essen Campus, too) all German languages courses to the amount of Euro 490 each:
Basic Courses G I and G II
Intermediate Courses M I and M II (M II as preparation for the DSH-test)
Therefore a minimum language level is not necessarily required (but it helps to live in Germany).
At the beginning of the courses an assessment test will ultimately determine the level of proficiency. Participation is possible if you have the qualification for admission to German universities and if you plan to study at Duisburg-Essen University. Apply online/Application for Admission >>
You can only be exempted from the DSH if you:
are a student of a particular programme or if you are registered for only a limited period of time,
have already passed the DSH at another university,
are in the possession of the Kleines- or Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom of the Goethe-Institute,
have passed the assessment exam of a preparatory course (Studienkolleg) or the final examination of a recognized German school, where the language of instruction is German or
have graduated in Germanistics.
Applicants who have been studying Germanistics for two years have to take the DSH examination. |
