Well, as for my experience, at the first couples of weeks in Germany, I have to speak english whenever I go 'cause I don't speak any German. but it doesn't bother me as most of Germans speak english well. later on I went to school to learn Germany and I found I always mixed English with my German. My english is getting rusty as I didn't practise for a while. but still my German is not as good as my english. Why??? because I'm not motivated to learn it. I always stick on English. There's a American girl in my class too. Guess what?? she's been here for 5 years and her husband is German. but her german is even worse than me?? I think interests is most important and moreover, language is a tool for communicating. the language is dead if you don't use or practise it very often. |
