Through the course the students will gain an insight into and master the basic knowledge and know how to analyze natural and human tourism resources, so as to develop the techniques in the development, management and protection of them. Meanwhile, the students will also gain the ability to pass smoothly the yearly exam of “Tour Guide Basic” held by Beijing tourism bureau. This course mainly discusses the following factors of or as tourism resources: their concepts and characteristics; classification; geology and landforms; water; living things; climates; historical remains; ancient buildings; ancient tombs; cities and towns, classical gardens, religions and culture, social customs; the division development, and protection of China’s tourism resources.
Tourism Marketing
This subject is one of the most important courses for tourism majors. It mainly deals with the environmental analysis of the tourism markets, the purchase of tourism products, the investigation and prediction of tourism markets, the subdivision and management of the markets, the development and establishment of prices for tourism products. The objective of this course is to lay a foundation for the students who will take tourism as their professions in the future.
Hotel Management
Based on the introduction of relationship between the hotel and the development of tourism, this course mainly deals with the theories and methods of modern hotels administration; its mechanism; basic organization; employee—managing network; principles and theories; administrative techniques and methods. Meanwhile, it also introduces the administrative intelligence such as how to plan, organize, lead, control and create. These will help the students to put the theories into practice according to the specific situation in the administration.
Tourism Administration
The science of administration concerns mainly the special activities of human being to understand the objects, things, and the law of human activities. The development of administrative theories is a proof of human’s recognition of the world. As an important activity, management requires the knowledge of many areas. Through this course, the students will gain some basic knowledge and administrative theories, which include classical administrative theories; the administrative theory of behavior science; the factors, forms, principles, aims, function, and process of administration.
Tourism Civilization
Culture, existing everywhere in our life, is an important heritage left by our ancestors. Because of its characteristics such as diversity and peculiarity, it becomes a precious tourism resource. How to preserve and develop the heritage is an important task for contemporary people as well as for the sustainable development of tourism industry. The course Tourism Civilization gives an introduction to the following aspects: culture and its source places; cultural regions; nations’ diversity; and the tourism value of cultural heritage. Through this course, the students will come to realize the inevitable fusion when different cultures meet together. But at the same time it is also necessary to inherit and keep the peculiarity of nations’ and regions’ cultural tradition.
Study on Folk—Custom
This is a course concerning the origin, development and changes of folklore. It mainly covers the following aspects: the cultural origin of folk custom’s connotation; the influence of natural, social, and political factors on folk customs; folk customs’ characteristics in different regions; the relationship among folk customs, nations, races and religions’ beliefs; the variety of folk custom; the place of folk customs in historical culture; the shock of industrialization on folk customs; the protection and development of folk customs in the time of knowledge and economy. Through learning this course, the students will gain an insight into folk customs’ tourism value and gain the ability to analyze the characteristics of folk customs in a certain region.
Tourism Economics
Based on socialism’s market economy theory and the theory and method of western modern economics, this course uses multi-course knowledge to make a comprehensive and systematic introduction to the tourism economics. Tourism is the behavior of people in touristic roles, As the study of mental processes and behavior, psychology is ideally suited as disciplinary base for the study of the complex phenomenon of tourism. However, despite this clear relevance, the application of psychology to the context of tourism has not been reflected widely in the psychology literature, and has a brief history, dating only to the late 1970s.
There are many ways of conceptualizing tourism and tourist behavior .For the sake of discussing the psychology of tourism however tourist behavior will be conceptualized here comprising five stages: 1/ anticipation 2/ travel to the site 3/ on-site behavior 4/ return travel and 5/ recollection .These 5 stages provide a convenient framework for considering the contributions that psychology has made to the understanding of tourism, as well as potential areas in which it can continue to advance.
