The University of Karlsruhe (Technical University) and the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe have founded the “Karlsruhe Institute of Technology”, where they will focus on research in micro- and nanotechnologies, scientific computing and materials research for the energy sector.
Enter the lab for nanostructures at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) and you will find a high resolution electron microscope. Amongst other things, scientists can use it to dissect cancer cells and examine defect microchips. It was this kind of cutting edge research that enabled the University of Karlsruhe (TH) to win funding in the state-sponsored excellence initiative last year, meaning it became one of Germany’s first three “elite universities” and will receive 96 million euros in additional funding over the next five years. |
