Many thanks for the above-mentioned enquiry, in which you ask for information on the University of Kaiserslautern.

We offer a wide range of academic programs. Please visit http://www.uni-kl.de/en/studies/programs-of-study/ for further information regarding courses of studies.

If you require information concerning admission you will make a find on http://www.uni-kl.de/en/studies/prior-to-enrollment/. Please apply online: http://www.uni-kl.de/en/studies/prior-to-enrollment/application/

You may get an overview and further information about our International Master programs here: http://www.uni-kl.de/isgs.

The following are prerequisite must before submitting your application:

You have to prove a basic knowledge of the German language (at least 600 lessons!) when you applying for admission to study at the University of Kaiserslautern. Your application will be rejected if you cannot prove your German language skills. The Certificate German (“Zertifikat Deutsch” = ZD) or another equivalent certificate verify your basic knowledge of the German language.

Important Notice: The proof of german language course must not be older than one year.

“Certificate German” can be attained by taking an exam

· at the Goethe Institutes abroad
· at Goethe Institutes, Adult Education Centres and some Language Schools in Germany

You can prepare for the “Certificate German” exam in language courses. You need a minimum of 600 lessons. In Germany, you can achieve this number of lessons during an intensive course within 4 to 6 months. The preparation time for the “Certificate German” can take much longer abroad as there are fewer lessons per week. For further information please contact the Goethe Institute in your home country.

Other equivalent certificates

In case you have a language certificate from another language school, it must be equivalent to the Certificate German. The language skills must be proven to be on the same level. The University of Kaiserslautern rejects certificates which are not clear and definite. Certificates of attendance are not accepted! A certificate of language skills must bear the following information:

· name of the school / university which held the course,
· duration of the course also indicating the total number of lessons,
· information about the final exam regarding different fields of exam (e.g. understanding, grammar etc.),grades achieved in the final exam,range of grades which are the basis for the final certificate grade.

Certificates of attendance are not accepted as a proof of sufficient German language skills.

Specialized studies can only start after sufficient German language skills have been proven. The command of the German language, which is required for effective studies, has to be proven by passing the “Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber (DSH)” (German language exam) enabling foreign student applicants to study at a German university. The prerequisite for taking the exam is the admission to study.

The following applicants do not need to pass the DSH exam:

Applicants who

have a diploma from a German school abroad qualifying for university admission;
have passed the assessment test (an exam to find out the qualification of foreign student applicants to start their studies at a German university);
have passed the DSH at a German university (DSH 2)
have achieved the “Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom” (“Intermediate German Language Diploma”) or the “Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom” (“Advanced German Language Diploma”);
have achieved the “German Language Diploma” (Level II) (“Deutsches Sprachdiplom” Stufe II) of the “Kultusministerkonferenz”;
have passed the “Deutsche Oberstufenprüfung (ZOP)” of the Goethe Institute;
have passed the Certificate “Unicert III”;
have passed the TestDaF which shows level 4 in all exam parts.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions. We will be pleased to help you.

Kind regards,
