I can only partially answer your questions at this time, as we are just in the process of defining the criteria for the admission to our new master's courses, which will start in the summer term of 2009. We shall soon have additional information on our website, e.g. at http://www.physik.uni-heidelberg.de/studium/master/.
Yes, it is definitely possible to study only the master courses (which take 2 years), if you have a Bachelor degree in physics that we can accept (there will be some GPA requirements that I cannot tell you in detail right now). You will also need some proof of sufficient English knowledge, a Cambridge Certificate or Toefl or the like. There is no requirement for German (as far as I know), although some knowledge of German would certainly be very helpful. Lectures will be in English.
There will be an online procedure for application, that should be open starting Dec. 1, 2008, until Jan 15, 2009. Shortly after that date (around end of January/early Feb.) we will conduct interviews with the candidates that fulfill the paperwork requirements for admission. There will be more detailed information once the application form is online, and I hope some will be available earlier.
I hope this information is helpful for you. Please understand that we are just starting the new Master courses, thus some details are not fully defined yet. What is certain, however, is that there will be a broad and research-oriented lecture program, including astrophysics, particle physics, atom physics, biophysics, environmental physics, and many more topics. |
